We were in Jasper Georgia today, repairing a customers Grandfather Clock. Her father built this clock case from scratch. He installed a beautiful Hermle 9 tube triple chime movement in the case. The customer told us her father built 8 Grandfather Clocks and each child received one as a gift through the years. Clock Repair Service's techs get to see many beautiful Grandfather Clocks every day. Some of our favorites Grandfather Clocks are the ones built from scratch like this one. Although we do love them all. We service clocks in the Jasper area several times per month. We have many customers in Big Canoe, Georgia as well as the Bent Tree area. Driving in the North Georgia Mountains today in Big Canoe and through Jasper made for a great day. A Howard Miller Grandfather Clock case on its back. We had to re attach the bottom of the clock, due to one of the weights come off its cable and had fallen.
We are able to re attach the bottom of Grandfather Clocks out at the customers home. Once the old staples are remover we use a nail gun to secure the bottom of the Grandfather Clock using small brads. The bottom of the Grandfather Clock on newer model Grandfather Clocks are designed to drop out when the weight falls. Older Grandfather Clocks and smaller Grandmother Clocks are not designed this way. When a weight falls off the chain or cable, the weight will sometimes create a large hole or crack the bottom piece of the Grandfather Clock. Many customers, while winding a Grandfather Clock will help the weight along by lifting the weight up slightly, when they finish winding the clock and let go of the weight, the weight will become unhooked from the chain or cable allowing it to fall to the bottom of the Grandfather Clock, not only damaging the bottom of the Grandfather Clock but also damaging the weight as well. When clock Repair Service come out to a customers home, we set up a shop next to the Grandfather Clock to be service or repaired. We are able to perform most of our work in our customers homes, saving the customer both time and money. After we rebuild or repair our Grandfather Clocks, we set them up on a test stand for further testing. Each grandfather Clock is electronically tested for a 24 hour period. After the electronic testing of the Grandfather clock, we will run the Grandfather Clock for at least 8 days, or a full cycle, insuring the time is correct and the Grandfather Clock is chiming on the 1/4 hours and the striking of the hour is correct.
Clock Repair Service, repairs and services over 700 Grandfather clocks per year in the Atlanta and surrounding areas. A new Grandfather Clock Movement can be expensive to replace or rebuild, the key to keeping your Grandfather Clock running smoothly is to have the Grandfather Clock movement cleaned and re-oiled every 3-4 years per the manufactures recommendation. 678-462-7856 We were called out to Atlanta to pack a Howard Miller Grandfather clock the other day. Clock Repair Service packs and packs/moves many Grandfather clocks per year. Packing a Grandfather Clock for a move is not all that difficult, however so many moving companies do not pack the clock correctly. We are called out many times to a customers home after a moving company has moved their Grandfather Clock. Packing the insides of a Grandfather Clock is the most important part of moving one. There are many items inside a Grandfather Clock that will break off if not properly packed. When Packing the inside of a Grandfather Clock make sure the chime rods are secured correctly. We replace several Grandfather Clock chime rods due to them not being secured prior to moving. The suspension spring and the pendulum leader also needs to be secured prior to moving the Grandfather clock. Removing the Weights and the pendulum is a must. Even if you plan to move your Grandfather clock just across the room. Securing the cables or the chins that hold the weights also need to be secured prior to moving your Grandfather Clock. If they are improperly or not secured, you will run the risk of having your Grandfather Clocks chains or cable slip off their track. Its obvious when a chain falls off its track, you will find the chain lying on the bottom of the Grandfather Clock. Not the same with a cable driven Grandfather Clock. Its almost impossible to tell if your cable on the Grandfather clock has slipped off its track. You will know if the cable has slipped off the track when your Grandfather clock quiets running or chiming. Packing your Grandfather Clock correctly the first time will save you time, money and a headache. If your moving company moving your Grandfather clock doesn't secure the inner working of your Grandfather Clock, there will be damage on the receiving end of the Grandfather Clocks journey. If you are in doubt with their ability to move your Grandfather Clock, most Clock Repair companies will provide you with a moving or packing service.
